Vida V2 Review – Hero’s Electric Scooter Tested

Hero MotoCorp’s foray into the electric two-wheeler space, the Vida V2, represents one of the most significant launches from India’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer. Hero, which has dominated petrol scooter and motorcycle sales for decades, is now betting big on electric mobility. The Vida V2 is available in two variants — V2 Plus and V2 Pro — and targets urban commuters seeking clean, affordable, and connected two-wheeled transportation. With charging infrastructure growing rapidly and the Indian government’s push for EV adoption through FAME subsidies, the Vida V2 enters a market that’s ready for mainstream EV scooters. In this detailed review, we examine whether Hero’s electric scooter can live up to the brand’s legendary reputation for reliability and value.

    Design & Styling

The Vida V2 has a contemporary, sleek design that distinguishes it from its petrol counterparts. The full-LED projector headlamp with integrated DRLs gives it a modern face, and the flowing bodywork with sharp character lines communicates a premium identity. Available in multiple colours including Matte Blue, Pearl White, Glossy Black, and Red, the Vida V2 presents well on Indian streets. The Vida branding is tasteful and not overpowering. Build quality is solid — the panel gaps are tight, and the matte finishes hold up well to regular washing and rain. The floorboard is flat and wide, offering excellent foot placement for a variety of rider sizes. Hero has successfully created a scooter that looks modern without being garish — a balance that the target audience of working professionals will appreciate.

    Motor & Performance

The PMSM motor delivers instant torque from standstill — the hallmark advantage of electric scooters. In Sport mode, the Vida V2 Pro sprints from 0–40 km/h in just 3.5 seconds, making city acceleration genuinely exciting. Eco mode dials back performance for maximum range, while Ride mode offers a balance between the two. The throttle response is linear and smooth — there are no jerky power surges that can unsettle riders in traffic. Top speed of 90 km/h on the Pro variant is adequate for most Indian urban use cases, though the lack of additional headroom may frustrate riders on fast stretches. Regenerative braking is available in two levels and contributes meaningfully to range recovery in stop-and-go traffic. Overall, the performance character suits urban commuting perfectly.

    Battery & Range

The 3.94 kWh lithium-ion battery is fixed (not removable), which is a notable difference from competitors like Ola and Ather that offer removable battery options. ARAI certified range is 143–165 km, but real-world mixed riding yields 90–110 km — a significant gap. In pure city riding with frequent stops and regenerative braking, our test returned 95–105 km. On a highway run at sustained 70 km/h, we achieved 115–120 km. Air conditioning usage doesn’t apply here, but cold weather (below 15°C) can reduce range by 10–15%. For a typical Indian urban commuter covering 30–50 km per day, a full charge every 2–3 days is realistic. The fixed battery means you cannot swap it for a fresh pack at a charging station — a consideration for buyers who lack home charging facilities.

    Charging Infrastructure

Vida charges via a standard 5A home socket using the bundled charger, taking approximately 5 hours for a full charge from near-empty. Hero has partnered with Charge+Zone and Tata Power EZ Charge for public charging access. DC fast charging capability (on supported public chargers) can replenish to 80% in approximately 75 minutes. Hero’s own Vida charging points are being deployed at dealer locations across India. For most buyers, overnight home charging will cover daily needs entirely. The charging cable is conveniently stored in the underseat storage. Hero has pledged to expand the Vida charging network to 1,000+ points by end of 2026.

    Features & Technology

The Vida V2’s connected technology is genuinely impressive. A 7-inch touchscreen TFT instrument cluster displays all essential information including speed, range, battery percentage, navigation, and media controls. The Vida app connects via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, offering remote diagnostics, geo-fencing, ride statistics, over-the-air (OTA) update support, and navigation. Three riding modes — Eco, Ride, and Sport — are selectable via the handlebar button. A reverse mode assists with manoeuvring in tight parking spots. The keyless ignition via the connected app is convenient. Anti-theft alerts are built in. LED lighting is full — headlamp, taillight, and indicators. USB Type-A charging port under the handlebar cover keeps smartphones topped up during commutes.

    Ride Comfort & Handling

The Vida V2’s ride quality is surprisingly good for a scooter in this price range. The telescopic front fork and twin rear shock absorbers handle Indian road irregularities with reasonable aplomb. The low centre of gravity — thanks to the floor-mounted battery — makes the scooter feel stable and planted in corners. At 118 kg, it’s heavier than petrol scooters of the same size, but the weight is distributed well enough that it doesn’t feel cumbersome. The 12-inch alloy wheels are appropriately sized, and the disc-drum brake combination with CBS (combined braking) provides reliable stopping power. Underseat storage of 25 litres can accommodate a half-face helmet and daily essentials.

    Price & Variants

Variant Range (ARAI) Top Speed Ex-showroom Price
    Vida V2 Plus 143 km 80 km/h ₹1.20 lakh
    Vida V2 Pro 165 km 90 km/h ₹1.30 lakh

FAME II or state-level EV subsidies may reduce effective prices. Check with your nearest Hero dealer for applicable incentives in your city.

    Pros & Cons

    Pros Cons
Hero brand reliability and service network Fixed battery — no swap option
Impressive 7-inch TFT touchscreen Significant ARAI vs real-world range gap
OTA software updates Home charging takes ~5 hours
Multiple riding modes + reverse Underseat storage modest at 25 litres
DC fast charging support Charging network still growing in smaller cities
Strong instant torque in city traffic Top speed limited to 90 km/h

    Verdict

The Hero Vida V2 is a confident, well-rounded electric scooter that brings the trust of India’s largest two-wheeler brand to the EV space. The connected technology — particularly the 7-inch TFT and OTA updates — is class-leading, and the fixed battery is a minor inconvenience for buyers with home charging access. For urban commuters covering 30–50 km daily in cities like Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai, or Hyderabad, the Vida V2 makes compelling financial and environmental sense. At ₹1.20–1.30 lakh, it’s priced competitively against the Ola S1 Air and TVS iQube ST, and Hero’s unmatched service network gives it a significant edge in smaller cities where EV-specific service is still limited.
