MG Windsor EV Review 2026 – Best Value Electric Car in India?

    support@wheelxpress.comBy support@wheelxpress.comJuly 4, 2026Updated:July 4, 2026No Comments4 Mins Read

The MG Windsor EV arrived with a genuinely disruptive proposition: a premium, coupe-SUV styled electric car with 331 km ARAI range, a large touchscreen, panoramic sunroof, and Lounge seating — starting at under ₹14 lakh with the innovative BaaS (Battery as a Service) model. The Windsor EV’s combination of premium design, competitive range, and aggressive pricing has made it one of India’s fastest-growing EV models. We drove it comprehensively to assess whether the value proposition holds up in real-world ownership.

    Key Specifications

    Specification Details
Battery 38 kWh (standard) / 50 kWh (long range)
Motor Power 136 PS, 200 Nm
    ARAI Range 331 km (38 kWh) / 449 km (50 kWh)
    Real-World Range 220–265 km (38 kWh, mixed)
    0–100 km/h 9.5 seconds
DC Fast Charge (0–80%) 55 minutes
BaaS Model ₹3.5/km battery subscription (no battery ownership)
Starting Price (BaaS) ₹9.99 lakh (ex-showroom, battery excluded)
Starting Price (with battery) ₹13.50 lakh

    Design & Exterior

The Windsor EV’s coupe-SUV silhouette is its most distinctive feature — the raked roofline, the flush door handles, the frameless panoramic sunroof, and the full-width LED light bar at the rear create a genuinely premium electric car aesthetic. It looks like a segment above its price — the design ambition is closer to the VW ID.4 than the Tata Nexon EV. Available in Starburst Black, Candy White, and Turquoise Green, the Windsor EV generates attention wherever it parks.

    Interior & Features

The 15.6-inch vertically mounted touchscreen (the largest in any Indian car under ₹20 lakh) dominates the dashboard. The Lounge rear seat — which reclines, has leg rests, and footrests — is a unique premium feature for rear passengers. Wireless Android Auto/CarPlay, 360-degree camera, and a 6-speaker audio system complete the feature list. The interior quality is competitive with the Creta EV’s excellence — high-quality upholstery and consistent material quality.

    Range & BaaS Model

The Battery as a Service model allows buyers to purchase the Windsor at ₹9.99 lakh without the battery, paying ₹3.5/km for battery usage. This reduces upfront cost but results in higher running costs at ₹3.5/km vs approximately ₹0.8–1.2/km electricity cost for owned-battery EVs. For buyers covering 1,000 km/month: BaaS costs ₹3,500/month vs owned battery’s approximately ₹800–1,200/month. The BaaS model suits buyers with limited upfront budget but higher monthly cash flow.

    Performance & Ride Quality

136 PS provides adequate urban performance — 0–100 km/h in 9.5 seconds is competitive for the price. The Windsor’s low centre of gravity enables confident handling. Ride quality is comfortable — the suspension handles Indian urban roads with composure. No Sport mode performance — the Windsor is tuned for comfort and efficiency, not excitement.

    Safety

6 airbags. Electronic Stability Control. Forward collision alert. Blind spot detection. Lane departure warning (top variant). The safety package is adequate but lacks the comprehensive ADAS of the Creta EV.

    Price & Variants

    • Excite Pro (BaaS): ₹9.99 lakh
    • Exclusive Pro (with battery): ₹13.50 lakh
    • Essence Pro (50 kWh): ₹17.50 lakh

    Pros and Cons

    Pros Cons
Coupe-SUV design at under ₹14 lakh BaaS model has high long-term running cost
15.6-inch screen — largest in India under ₹20L Real-world range (220–265 km) below Nexon/Creta EV
Lounge rear seat — unique premium feature MG service network smaller than Hyundai/Tata
Frameless panoramic sunroof — class-leading No V2L or V2H capability
Attractive starting price (with battery ₹13.50L) Limited charging network

    Verdict

The MG Windsor EV Exclusive Pro at ₹13.50 lakh (with battery) is the most design-forward, feature-rich electric car under ₹15 lakh in India. Its coupe-SUV aesthetics, 15.6-inch screen, and Lounge seating are genuinely differentiated. However, the lower real-world range (220–265 km) and MG’s service network limitations mean it trails the Nexon EV and Creta EV in practical daily ownership confidence. For design-first buyers: Windsor EV. For reliability-first buyers: Nexon EV Max. Rating: 8.6/10.
