Mahindra BE 6 Review – Real World Range & Performance

    support@wheelxpress.comBy support@wheelxpress.comJuly 3, 2026No Comments6 Mins Read

The Mahindra BE 6 represents a bold new chapter for Indian automaking. Built on Mahindra’s purpose-designed INGLO EV platform, the BE 6 is not a converted ICE vehicle — it is engineered from the ground up as an electric SUV coupe, targeting premium urban buyers who want range, performance, and a stunning design statement. We drove it on highways outside Bengaluru and through the city, testing its real-world credentials against Mahindra’s ambitious promises.

    Design & Exterior

The Mahindra BE 6 is unlike any SUV Mahindra has made before — and unlike most SUVs on Indian roads, period. Its aerodynamic coupe-SUV silhouette (0.27 Cd drag coefficient) features a sloping roofline, flush door handles, camera-based wing mirrors, and a distinctive rear spoiler that doubles as an aerodynamic aid. The front end sports a full-width LED light signature that wraps over the closed front fascia — no traditional grille needed when there is no ICE engine to cool. Signature twin circular tail-lamps give the rear a futuristic punctuation mark.

Ground clearance of 207 mm is generous, making the BE 6 genuinely capable for Indian road conditions despite its sporty low-slung appearance. The flush-fitting aerodynamic door handles are a showpiece — they deploy on approach and retract seamlessly. Available in four bold colours including a striking Copper concept-inspired shade, the BE 6 turns heads on any road in any city. This is a design that comfortably competes globally.

    Interior & Cabin Quality

The BE 6’s cabin design is as dramatic as its exterior. A massive 12.3-inch infotainment screen pairs with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster on a floating dashboard panel that feels genuinely futuristic without being distracting. The flat floor architecture (skateboard EV platform) delivers excellent foot space for rear passengers. Panoramic glass roof, 64-colour ambient lighting, ventilated and massaged front seats on top trims, and a premium 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system create a cabin atmosphere that rivals cars costing significantly more.

Mahindra has also prioritised practical storage: a deep centre console, large door pockets, dual wireless charging pads, and USB-C ports in both rows. Material quality is impressive — soft touch surfaces on the dashboard, aluminium accents that feel genuinely metallic, and seat fabric with an upmarket texture. The panoramic roof floods the cabin with natural light. Overall, the BE 6 delivers a premium cabin experience that would embarrass many cars in the ₹30–40 lakh range.

    Infotainment & Technology

The BE 6 runs Mahindra’s new Adrenox 2.0 system — faster, cleaner, and more feature-rich than the first-generation AdrenoX. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, voice commands via Alexa integration, and a connected car suite with remote pre-conditioning and charge scheduling are all present. OTA updates are available over Wi-Fi. The infotainment system responds with tablet-like speed — among the best implementations in any Indian car.

ADAS features are comprehensive: Level 2 autonomous driving assistance including Adaptive Cruise Control with stop-and-go, Lane Centring Assist, Automatic Emergency Braking, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and a high-definition 360-degree camera. The camera-based wing mirrors feed live video to two screens on the dashboard corners — a feature that takes some getting used to but is genuinely useful in tight parking scenarios.

    Engine & Performance

The BE 6 AWD variant’s combined output of approximately 340 bhp and 380 Nm gives it supercar-adjacent acceleration: 0–100 km/h in under 5.0 seconds. On the highway outside Bengaluru, we experienced this acceleration firsthand — it is genuinely startling in a family-sized SUV. Regenerative braking is adjustable via steering paddles across five levels, with the highest offering full one-pedal capability. The 175 kW DC fast-charging capability is a genuine differentiator — 20–80% in approximately 20 minutes means pit stops are brief on long-distance journeys.

The RWD 79 kWh variant is the range-focused choice, delivering a claimed 535 km ARAI range. Real-world highway range is approximately 440–460 km at 100–110 km/h — still class-leading. Three drive modes (Zip, Zap, Zoom — Mahindra’s nomenclature) progressively unlock power delivery from efficient to exhilarating.

    Ride Quality & Handling

The INGLO platform’s low centre of gravity (battery in floor) translates into handling confidence that SUV buyers rarely experience. Body roll is minimal despite the tall ride height — the suspension does an excellent job keeping the body flat in spirited cornering. The multi-link rear suspension on the BE 6 (versus torsion beam on most competitors) delivers noticeably better ride quality over sharp road imperfections.

City ride comfort is plush — Bengaluru’s speed breakers and potholes are dispatched without drama. At 120 km/h on the highway, the BE 6 is serene: excellent sound isolation, no wind noise intrusion, and a planted, confidence-inspiring feel. The chassis quality is genuinely world-class — this is what purpose-built EV platforms enable versus EV conversions.

    Safety Features

Mahindra submitted the BE 6 for Global NCAP testing, where it achieved a 5-star adult and 5-star child occupant rating — the first Mahindra EV to achieve this. Standard equipment includes 7 airbags, ABS, Electronic Stability Programme, Hill Hold and Descent Control, Tyre Pressure Monitoring, and the Level 2 ADAS suite. The battery pack carries IP67 rating and is surrounded by a reinforced steel enclosure integrated into the platform.

An emergency response guide QR code on the B-pillar helps first responders quickly identify battery cut-off points — a thoughtful safety consideration in India’s evolving EV infrastructure landscape.

    Price & Variants

    Variant Battery Ex-showroom Price
    BE 6 (59 kWh, RWD) 59 kWh ₹18.90 lakh
    BE 6 (79 kWh, RWD) 79 kWh ₹22.90 lakh
    BE 6 (79 kWh, AWD) 79 kWh ₹26.90 lakh

    Pros & Cons

    Pros Cons
175 kW DC charging — fastest in class Camera wing mirrors require adjustment period
535 km ARAI range (79 kWh RWD) Coupe roofline reduces rear headroom slightly
5-star NCAP (adult + child) Mahindra EV service network still expanding
Purpose-built EV platform — superior ride Lower trims miss ventilated seats
Supercar-fast AWD acceleration Infra for 175 kW chargers limited

    Verdict

The Mahindra BE 6 is proof that India can build world-class electric vehicles. Its purpose-built INGLO platform, 535 km range, 175 kW DC charging, 5-star NCAP safety, and stunning design place it comfortably in the global premium EV conversation — not just the Indian market. For buyers who prioritise range anxiety elimination, performance, and design prestige, the BE 6 has no serious competitor at its price point.

The 79 kWh RWD at ₹22.90 lakh represents extraordinary value. The AWD at ₹26.90 lakh is for performance enthusiasts. Mahindra’s expanding charging network (Mahindra Fast Charge) is the final piece needed to make the BE 6 completely carefree on long journeys — and that network is growing fast. This is India’s most exciting EV in 2026.
