Suzuki Gixxer SF Review – Best Fully Faired Bike?

    support@wheelxpress.comBy support@wheelxpress.comJuly 3, 2026No Comments4 Mins Read

The Suzuki Gixxer SF has been the loyal alternative to the Yamaha R15 since its launch — a fully faired 150cc motorcycle that prioritises accessible performance, everyday usability, and Suzuki’s reputation for understated quality. The SF (Super Faired) nomenclature signals its intent: a proper fairing-equipped bike for riders who want the sportbike look without the compromises of truly aggressive ergonomics. After 3,800 km of mixed-condition testing, we assess whether the Gixxer SF remains relevant in a segment that has been dramatically raised by the R15 V5 and the Honda CBR150R.

    Quick Specifications

    Parameter Details
    Engine 155cc, Single-Cylinder, Oil-Cooled, SOHC, Fuel-Injected
    Power 13.6 bhp @ 8,000 rpm
    Torque 13.8 Nm @ 6,000 rpm
    Transmission 5-Speed
    Fuel Type Petrol
    ARAI Mileage 44.55 km/l
    Kerb Weight 139 kg
    Fuel Tank 12 litres
    Ex-showroom Price (Delhi) ₹1,41,400 – ₹1,47,400

    Design & Styling

The Gixxer SF’s full fairing design is clean, mature, and well-proportioned. Without the aggressive aerodynamic appendages of the R15 V5, it looks more conventional but also more timeless. The dual LED headlamp, faired side panels, and clean tail section give it a sporty appearance without screaming for attention. Build quality is very solid — Suzuki’s manufacturing consistency shows in tight panel fits and well-finished surfaces. Available in Metallic Triton Blue, Glass Sparkle Black, and Metallic Mat Black, all three look excellent. It is a handsome motorcycle that will age well aesthetically.

    Engine & Performance

The oil-cooled 155cc engine produces a modest 13.6 bhp and 13.8 Nm of torque — less than the R15 V5 (18.4 bhp) and the FZ-S Fi (12.4 bhp). Crucially, the torque arrives at a more accessible 6,000 rpm, making city riding smooth and effortless. The Gixxer SF is not a motorcycle that rewards hard revving — it is at its best at 60–90 km/h, where the power delivery is linear and the engine feels most at home. Top speed of approximately 115 km/h is adequate for highway overtakes. The 5-speed gearbox shifts cleanly if not with the precision of Yamaha’s unit.

    Mileage & Fuel Efficiency

This is a Gixxer SF strength: ARAI claims 44.55 km/l, and real-world city returns of 38–42 km/l are very achievable. Highway economy at 80–85 km/h can exceed 45 km/l. With the 12-litre tank, range between fill-ups exceeds 480–520 km in highway conditions. For a daily commuter who covers 30–50 km of urban riding, monthly fuel costs can be as low as ₹900–1,100. This frugality is a genuine competitive advantage over the thirstier Yamaha R15 V5.

    Ride Quality & Handling

The telescopic front forks and monoshock rear suspension are tuned for comfort-first, sportier-second. The result is good urban comfort but less precise cornering feedback than the R15 V5’s more aggressive setup. The Gixxer SF feels confidence-inspiring and stable, if not particularly exciting when pushed through corners. Braking from a 266 mm front disc (with ABS on top variant) and a rear drum is adequate for the performance envelope. The dual-channel ABS variant, while adding ₹6,000 to the price, is strongly recommended.

    Features & Technology

The fully digital LCD instrument cluster is clear and functional. The Gixxer SF lacks Bluetooth connectivity, riding modes, or any connected features — a notable shortfall versus the R15 V5 at a similar price point. LED headlamp on upper variant. No USB port. For a buyer focused purely on commuting reliability and fuel economy, these omissions matter less. For a buyer comparing feature sheets, the Gixxer SF is outgunned.

    Comfort & Ergonomics

The Gixxer SF’s ergonomic advantage over the R15 V5 is significant. The handlebar position is higher, the footpegs are less aggressively positioned, and the seat height of 800 mm is more accessible. The fairing reduces wind blast substantially on highway runs. This is a bike you can ride for 150 km without dreading the journey — a notable achievement for a fully-faired 150cc machine. Pillion comfort is better than the R15 as well, with a wider rear seat and grab rail.

    Price & Variants

    Variant Ex-showroom Price (Delhi)
    Standard ₹1,41,400
    ABS ₹1,47,400

    Pros & Cons

    Pros Cons
Better comfort than R15 V5 Less outright performance than R15 V5
Excellent fuel economy (38–45 km/l) No Bluetooth or connected features
Solid Suzuki build quality Drum rear brake on base variant
More accessible price point Fewer features vs Yamaha at similar price
Good fairing wind protection 5-speed vs 6-speed gearbox of rivals

    Verdict

The Suzuki Gixxer SF is not the most exciting motorcycle in its class, but it may be the most sensible daily-use fully faired option. If your priority is fuel economy, comfort, all-day rideability, and Suzuki’s long-term reliability — and if you are not chasing the R15’s track-day performance — the Gixxer SF offers excellent value. At ₹1.41–1.47 lakh, it undercuts the R15 significantly and delivers a genuinely pleasant riding experience. Recommended for practical, comfort-focused riders.
