Jeep Meridian Review 2026 – Is It Worth ₹30 Lakh?

    support@wheelxpress.comBy support@wheelxpress.comJuly 4, 2026Updated:July 4, 2026No Comments3 Mins Read

The Jeep Meridian is the Compass’s 7-seat evolution — a larger, more capable SUV that brings Jeep’s 4×4 expertise, American design sensibility, and a turbocharged diesel powertrain to India’s premium 7-seat segment. Priced above the MG Gloster and below the Toyota Fortuner, the Meridian competes on Jeep’s heritage, 4WD technology, and a premium interior in a segment where Toyota’s reliability dominance is difficult to challenge. We test the Overland (top) variant comprehensively.

    Key Specifications

    Specification Details
Engine 2.0L Multijet II Diesel (170 PS, 350 Nm)
    Transmission 9AT (automatic)
    Drive 4WD with Selec-Terrain (Overland) / FWD
    Length × Width 4,765 × 1,859 mm
    Ground Clearance 205 mm
    Boot Space 239L (7-seat) / 706L (5-seat)
    Claimed FE 14.51 km/l
    Starting Price ₹29.90 lakh (ex-showroom)

    Design & Exterior

The Jeep Meridian has the unmistakable seven-slot grille, trapezoidal wheel arches, and squared-off body panels that define Jeep’s design language. In a segment of softer, rounded SUV shapes, the Meridian’s angular, purposeful appearance is distinctive. The 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, the LED headlamps with Jeep’s signature DRL pattern, and the muscular rear make it look genuinely premium and rugged. The Techno Grey and Rocky Mountain Blue metallic shades are particularly attractive.

    Interior & Features

The Meridian’s Overland interior features a 10.1-inch Uconnect infotainment with wireless Android Auto/CarPlay, a 10.25-inch digital driver display, panoramic sunroof, McIntosh 9-speaker premium audio, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, and Level 2 ADAS (adaptive cruise, lane centering, forward collision warning, blind spot monitoring). The American-origin interior has a substantial, built-to-last feel — the tactile quality of switches and materials is genuinely premium. Third-row legroom is adequate for adults on shorter journeys.

    Engine & Performance

The 2.0L Multijet diesel with 9-speed automatic is well-matched for India. The 9AT’s close-ratio calibration keeps the engine in its power band on hills and during overtaking. Real-world fuel economy: city: 11.5–13 km/l; highway: 13.5–16 km/l. The Selec-Terrain system (Auto, Sand, Snow, Mud, Rock modes) on the 4WD Overland is genuinely useful for India’s varied terrain — we tested it on the Sahyadri hill trails and in Mumbai monsoon conditions to good effect.

    Ride Quality & Handling

The Meridian’s monocoque construction (unlike the body-on-frame Fortuner) delivers better on-road ride quality and handling than the Toyota. The 205 mm ground clearance is adequate for Indian conditions. The Selec-Terrain 4WD provides meaningfully better all-weather traction than the Fortuner’s part-time 4WD in on-road wet conditions. However, the Fortuner’s body-on-frame and low-range gearing remain more capable in extreme off-road scenarios.

    Safety

6 airbags. Level 2 ADAS (Overland): adaptive cruise, lane centering, forward collision warning, blind spot monitoring, rear cross path detection. Selec-Terrain traction management. Hill start assist and hill descent control. The safety package is among the most comprehensive in the under-₹35 lakh segment.

    Price & Variants

    • Limited (FWD): ₹29.90 lakh
    • Limited Plus (FWD): ₹32.75 lakh
    • Overland (4WD): ₹37.30 lakh

    Pros and Cons

    Pros Cons
McIntosh audio — premium segment exclusive Jeep service network limited — major challenge
Selec-Terrain 4WD — best on-road all-weather in class Significantly more expensive than MG Gloster
Level 2 ADAS on Overland variant City fuel economy (11.5–13 km/l) below Fortuner diesel
Monocoque body — better city handling than Fortuner Third-row boot space (239L) very limited
9AT transmission — smoothest in segment Resale value below Toyota Fortuner

    Verdict

The Jeep Meridian Overland is a technically superior on-road SUV compared to the Toyota Fortuner with its ADAS, monocoque body, and McIntosh audio — but the Fortuner’s service network, resale value, and genuine off-road supremacy keep it ahead in long-term ownership calculus. The Meridian is the choice for urban premium SUV buyers who value technology and driving dynamics; the Fortuner is for buyers who value long-term value and reliability. Rating: 8.4/10.
